Assemble mainframe and crossmembers

Wet&Dry, etch prime, prime and paint main buffer beams and buffers

Precision Paints recommend using white primer in their their paints, to ensure that the colour of the top coat is correct.

Fit buffer beams and buffers

Fit axles, wheels and outside cranks

Fit packing washers as necessary

Fit Coupling rods & washers

Check wheels and coupling rods for free running through 360 deg forwards & backwards and adjust as necessary

Open out hole, a little at a time, using needle file or similar, on coupling rod attached to leading wheel of coupling rod that is nearest the front of engine when binding takes place.

Fit cylinders and align on frames

Fit slide valves and valve chests, half-fit valve chest covers to enable adjustment.

Fit superheater to cylinder inlets

Engine cannot be tested until this has been done, therefore final adjustment and pinning of Return Cranks is dependent on this.

Drill and pin return cranks (dependent on fitting superheater first)

Assemble and fit reversing lever and linkage

The manual fitting will be used while engine is running in, to ensure that motion is properly adjusted, then removed when radio control is fitted.  This could be left until after installing the footplate.

Rub down, clean, then paint smokebox using heat-resistant paint

Heat-resistant paint from car accessory shops - paint for engines and exhausts.

Instal smoke box (3 screws)

Gently bend exhaust pipes from cylinders to go up chimney

Don't strip the threads where exhaust pipes fitted to cylinders

Fit Chimney cap (Araldite)

This can be left until late in the process, and should not be attempted until the paint on the smokebox is dry.

Fit smokebox dart

Fit smokebox handrail (ready bent, use 2 handrail knobs)

Unable to find specific parts for this on boiler kit inventory and have contacted Roundhouse re this.

Bolt smokebox to frame, check fit of exhaust pipes

Remove Brass wrapper from boiler

Rub down brass wrapper, paint with etch primer, then standard white primer then top coat

Paint Boiler - as per smokebox

Instructions do not mention painting boiler but photo of loco on Roundhouse web site shows backhead as being black, therefore at least part of the boiler will need to be painted as per smokebox.  This needs to be checked with Roundhouse.

Replace boiler wrapper on boiler but do not tighten down

Fit boiler mounting to rear of boiler

Fit boiler band to go round both boiler and mounting foot.  Adjust as necessary.

Slide boiler over superheater and into rear of smokebox

Bend cab floor to shape

Bend Regulator Servo Mount to shape

Solder Regulator Servo Mount to Cab Floor

This order enables soldering to be done before paint has been applied.
