Fitting a chip, sound unit and smoke unit, and crew to a  l.g.b. Corpet  Louvet

Or  how I did it and it worked for me.

Firstly go and make your self a brew

Then READ the instructions that cane with the dig, chip, and yes I know boring but you need to read them.

There are 2 ways to fit a chip according to l.g.b. the easy way and the custom way

This is neither ,it’s my way ,and it works for me it should work for you

  1. remove the 8 small screws that hold the body to the chassis

  1.

  1. Lift off the body and un plug the wiring from the printed circuit board (Don’t worry where the wires go , they aren’t going back!)

  1. remove the 3 position switch that is fitted in the cab (we wont need it and we will need the space)

  1. un screw the 2 screws that hold the circuit board to  the lead weight and remove the printed circuit board  ,to do this you will have to remove a cable with a plug on the end which goes to the chassis block , just pull this off to leave the 4 pins on the chassis looking up at you.

  1. re move the 4 screws holding the lead weight to the chasse , and remove the lead weight
  2. Weigh the lead weight using your wife’s best kitchen scales and write it down some where safe.

  1. go and make another brew because this is where you need to concentrate
  2. READ THE BOOKLET THAT CAME WITH THE L.G.B. CHIP(55021)
  3. the chip has 4 wires green , brown, white, yellow , these are going to fit on to the pins sticking up off the chasse, they just push on ,now the hard bit

  1. on the chasse the pins are labelled gn (green) bn (brown) ws (white) ge (yellow)  guess where the pins go –yep –green to gn , brown to bn, white to ws,yellow to ge. congratulations , you have just chipped your loco

  1. silicon the chip to the loco chasse  in front of the motor block (see photo) on its side
  2. take the l.g.b. smoke stack generator (24 volt 65553)out off the packet and push the 2 wires down the chimney stack till they come out inside the loco body, then pull them down to draw the smoke generator into  the chimney stack

  1. Open the box off your l.g.b. sound unit (65000europ.steam sound) and remove the unit ,look at the unit and you will see that it is made up of 2 halves , push the 4 tabs that hold it together to split the unit.
  2. remove the printed circuit board , this leaves the speaker in the other half of the casing , to remove the speaker turn the casing upside down and push out the 4 tabs holding the speaker grill in place , you will then be able to remove the speaker by sliding it through the slots in the casing
  3. connect 2 wires that came with the sound unit to the sound unit leaving bear wires at the ends (we don’t need the plug or the push fit pins)

  1. go back to your chasse and pull of the brown and white wires off the chassis block
  2. soldier 1 wire from the smoke stack and 1 wire from the sound unit to the brown  wire at the end where it has just come off your chassis
  3. solder the other wire from the smoke stack  and the other wire from the sound unit to the white wire at the end where it has just come off your chasse

  1. when these have cooled down rap in insulation tape and push them back on to the pins on your chasse , brown on bn, white on ws
  2. re place all the bulbs in the loco (2) with 68513 clear 24 volt bulbs
  3. connect the leads for the lights to the corresponding pins on the chip ,they are the second to the bottom set (the l.g.b. instruction booklet back page has a big and helpful picture )
  4. if your loco has more lights connect them .(front to front pins, back to back pins  and cab light will have to join up with front lights)
  5. you are doing fine, go make another brew and make me one
  6. cut the double sided tape that came with the sound unit in to 4 bits and stick them to the inside off the tanks , these are going to hold the sound card and the speaker (see photo)

  1. this is where you can cheat a bit , the side tanks are removable on the corpet louvet
  2. stick the sound board to the loco body as near to the cab as you can , then stick the speaker next to it
  3. go to Argus and buy a window leading kit, this is lead on a roll, that you can cut with a pair off scissor
  4. roll the lead strip in to a roll the same weight as the lead you removed earlier ,this will show you how much you need to put back in the loco
  5. start by rolling a small roll that will fit inside the  fire box opening ,when you have got the right size cover them with insulation tape ,  fill the opening with a few rolls till its full and seal them in with silicon
  6. you will be able to fit a few bigger rolls down the side of the tanks and 2 between the speaker and the smoke stack see photo) be care full to make sure that the loco is properly balance more weight at the front is better than at the back, so be careful and get it right

  1. silicon the weights in when you are happy, make sure that the body fits first as its a bit off a pain  if it doesn’t (see photo)

  1. re assemble the loco and fit the crew in the cab using clear  silicon
  2. I all ways try to use real coal in the coal box so now’s a good time to silicon some in
  3. go and make a brew

  1. turn power on to your track
  2. place  loco on track and cross your fingers
  3. make loco move –if you have analogue  control this is as far as you can go , put some smoke oil in the stack and listen to your loco chuff off into the distance with smoke coming out off the chimney
  4. if you have dig, you will need to reprogram the loco to what ever no. you want , but if you do not do this there will not be synchronised noise and movement
  5. when you have programmed the new number test out you loco , turn lights on and off turn sound unit on ,off  ,and back on , put smoke oil in the stack and watch the smoke come out
  6. take your loco back in , remove the body and adjust the volume, refit the body and test your loco
  7. of course if you have a sound unit with a separate volume control its easier  to fit the volume control were you can get to it , this depends on which loco we are working on , but with the corpet louvet this is an easy job, if you look under the cab  behind the steps there is a small hole , it is just a bit to small for the volume control handle to fit through , you will need to make it a bit bigger so that the spindle will turn easily
  8. Remove the volume control spindle from the volume control unit , unplug the volume control from the sound unit pas the wires through the hole in the cab floor under the fire box.
  9. undo the rear coupling draw bar and fit the sound unit volume control unit under it (a bit of trimming is need )pop the spindle back in through the new bigger hole and connect up to the sound unit ,I usually cover the volume control unit with plasticard and fill with silicon to weatherproof it and then paint it black , refit the coupling and test out your loco
