Lincoln Show 23/24th February 2008 Lawns Visitor centre.
This is my third visit to this show and my first show of the year. We are embarking on show season and once again it was worth a visit. This show is well organised and set in a beautiful city of Lincoln. Castle and Cathedral are only a step away . A very reasonable entry charge with a reduction for us senior citizens and as it all on one floor good access for anyone with mobility problems.. There is a reasonable pay display car park on hand. Although I think there were less layouts this year or maybe I was just suffering withdrawal symptoms from Walts Playmobil railway. There was still plenty to see from the Garratts of Tarrag Shed to the pipers of Gscale Scotland's layout. The wonderful modelling skills of the Black Dog Mining Co. and theGN15 Tinplate and Engineering Works set a really true live scene which is my layout of the show.. Gscale society was also represented by East Midlands Members. There was even a railway in the making which gives a good insight into the basics of modelling. For those of us who cannot resist playing with Lego bricks the layout here what can be done with these kits.
I love to seek out those little things that make models come alive and there were certainly no shortage of traders to provide them. Perfect World ,Busybodies, I could not resist the tramp from Modeltown my wife thinks it bears a striking resemblance to me at times. (sorry it is a little fuzzy, sometimes the meths gets to me. Their whole range of characters is always worth a check out as new ones are always creeping in. I always seem to end up with something from Lineside Delights
I also decided to have a crack at making something with Jigstones from back to bay6. If anyone has any useful tips to pass on about making them please post them on the forum. Based on my previoyus history it may be some time before I actually make anything up! Tuxcraft had there new viaduct on display and I know there has been some interest on the Forum about this. It is designed to take radius three curves and there are pillars available. A straight version is in the pipeline to compliment it. As with all their products it is a good hefty sturdy model and at a good price. Checkout the wooden trestle bridge too .It is wood and not concrete Perhaps the they are looking to move into some lighter products after all the years of humping concrete models about.
It is good to see a wide range of LGB products on the stands of Chalk Garden and Bay Models. I am a very basic enthusiast but there were a really good selection of engines new and secondhand that nearly had even me reaching for my wallet .Good job the CPO reminded me the extension is not paid for yet. Classic of Cleethorpes had a great range on display as did Martins Models. Other traders that should not be forgotten Brian Jones, I.P. Engineering, Atropos, T & M Models, Tony Green Steam Models, Chuffed To Bits and for some great clearance bargains P.M. Videos.
There is a tea bar
inside the show, although seating was a bit hidden in another room
and a cafe just outside providing light refreshments.
This a personal view by rambling roger and is only intended to give a flavour of the shows I can get to from Reading and tend to be mainly the southern ones with occasional visits to G Wizz up north. So if you visit a northern show or an international one why not drop G Scale Mad a few lines via Jason.
