Rosabahn Mountain Railway

The summer of  2005 saw the completion of the 5 ˝ inch gauge “S&R Railway” but left a small problem in the shape of  a couple of tons of soil in the top left corner of the garden.

Not to let a valuable space go to waste/weeds it was decided to construct an end to end mountain railway in G scale.  Some heavy groundwork was required, especially for the tunnel

A rack railway was initially considered but with the excellent pulling power of LGB engines it was decided to rely on traction alone.

At the bottom of the mountain is Rosatal station carefully shielded from the wind and 5000 litres of heating fuel by a homemade windbreak. The station building doubles as a convenient home for the electrical connections.

The breeze block tunnel construction is concealed by this portico and a first attempt was made at writing in concrete, to a very satisfactory result. The rolling stock shows my good ladies handiwork in the paint department and the judicious use of the S&R logo.

As the line emerges from the back of the mountain it passes over a short viaduct with a water feature running through

The line then divides at Mittleberg station where trains halt in order for the Down traffic to pass and then onwards past the farm and the chapel to the girder bridge

Arriving finally at the summit  and Rosaberg Station
