G Scale Society – Solent Local Area Group

Third Annual Indoor Meeting – Wickham – Saturday October 2007

Having  most of the Dorchester Line  in store at the moment due to building works which have finally got underway I needed a quick fix of G scale. So I was happy to trek down to Wickham in Hampshire for this indoor show. I was not disappointed from the friendly welcome to the whole layout of the show.

There was no charge for entry or refreshments but donations were welcomed to offset the costs of the show. I do hope the books balanced ! so the show may continue in future. Indeed it is already scheduled for Saturday 25th. October 2008.

With ten different layouts to look at there were plenty of ideas to pick up. It was nice to see some small layouts and some that were more or less just the track to those much more detailed. I have included some pictures. My layout of the show was Slag Sutton because it does show what you can do in a small space.

Kent Garden Railway provided that all important trade support along with “Classic Ladies” providing some suitable bits and pieces from the dolls house world. It was good to see a busy bring and buy stall too. I could not a couple of small purchases here. Well you cannot go to a show without something to bring home can you.

Plenty of free parking and the refreshments were ably supplied by a team of volunteers to keep us going. Easy access for anyone with mobility problems.

To add the finishing touch there was a raffle with a new LGB engine up for grabs.

All in all a pleasant show and it shows that this group is thriving well and clearly the organisers did a really good job to make it a good friendly show. If you live in the area make sure you pay it a visit next year. I shall be make my way from Reading again.
