Large Scale Model Rail Show

Warwickshire Exhibition Centre

8-9th. April 2006

The centre is well signposted and easy to get to and there is plenty of free parking. They did manage to cut the grass this year! It is not easy to get by public transport. The entrance fee was a little high at £7 but advance tickets were a pound less.

There were over forty stalls to pick over. Although several gauges were catered for at this show there was plenty to see and buy for G scale. This show is one for the scratch builder as there lots of the essential bits and tools on display as well liberal helpings of advice. Plenty of bargains were to be had throughout the show.

Whiteleaf Light Railway and Penn St  and Hampton End layouts  well represented G scale but the my favourite layout had to be  Seabury Town which although in O gauge had some really clever features. For sheer scenery The Red Rocks Railroad was a masterpiece. There were more than a dozen layouts of differing scales all offering a different of our hobby. I always seem to find a novel idea on every layout to try out on my own. I always appreciate the amount of work exhibitors must go to get their layouts up and running for these shows.

The catering was once again excellent and served by really friendly ladies. Well done!

Something strange must come over me when I come to this show as last year I bought one of George Turner Model’s barge kits this year somehow I ended up with a radio control lifeboat from Bay Models and luckily George Turner’s stand had the crew for it. I not sure what the fish in my pond will make of it.

I was not troubled too much, in my unpaid capacity as the G Scale Mad Boss’s minder, in keeping forum members with badges from mobbing him as the two of them we met were well behaved.

Finally my day was well rounded off with a stop off at Malcolm’s PPMM railway on the way home. Thanks to you and your family for making us welcome and showing us your ingenious line and models. A perfect end to a great day out.
