WELCOME TO THE WETTON GOOEY LIGHT RAILWAY

The Wetton Gooey Light Railway is located on the Shropshire / Wales border. It links the canal system at Gooey with the town of Wetton where there is an inter-change with the Great Western / Cambrian Railway. In between these 2 stations are the intermediate stations of Pant Glas Road (which is closer to the centre of Wetton than the terminus station), Castle Halt (serving a local tourist attraction via a cable car) and Cockshutt Mortimer (the only other town of any note on the route) Having struggled to survive for some time, the line was taken over by a preservation group in the mid 60’s. With many of the line’s locomotives and much of its rolling stock in poor condition, the enthusiasts scoured Europe for suitable replacements. Today an eclectic mixture of trains carries passengers and demonstrates freight workings.

Actually this is all fantasy. The truth is that my garden railway is nothing more than a small oval with a run-round loop and 3 sidings. The only station currently modelled is Wetton. A branch line runs off the oval, over a viaduct and under the deck. At the moment it stops there, but in the future it will emerge from the other side of the deck and into another station (Gooey). I have a couple of Tuxcraft buildings, but most of the structures are built from scratch from exterior plywood. I’ve also recently built some rolling stock from card mounted on commercial chassis.

The Wetton Gooey Light Railway is inspired by the many narrow gauge railways of Wales and by the Cleobury Mortimer & Ditton Priors Light Railway which ran only a few miles from my home on the Worcestershire / Shropshire border.
